CBM Miracles Day

August 27th, 2015

One of the charities we have been supporting over the last few years is CBM. In particular we have been supporting Miracles Day. Their websites says…

“Together with our wonderful supporters, CBM was last year able to make more than 18,500 Miracles happen. That’s more than 18,500 of the world’s poorest men, women and children having their sight – and their lives – restored.”

I would encourage you to check out the video above and consider helping them reach their target of 20,000 people helped.

Update: I just checked the figures and so far CBM has reached 22,966 miracles. Praise God!

Key songs for growth

August 26th, 2015

Many of us have key Bible verses as Christians. Verses that really spoke to us and called us to greater things. They are life changing.

Many also have key songs that sparked deeper commitment to God and greater growth in Him. One of those songs for me was Eagles Wings by Hillsong.

Eagles Wings talks about waiting on God, surrender, asking God to dwell in you and rising in God’s strength. I can remember singing these things with all of my heart when it came out.

Today I listened to it again while I was riding the exercise bike and all those feelings came flooding back. For me it was a key song in my spiritual journey and growth.

How about you? Have you got key songs that have sparked a growth spurt in your spiritual journey?

Stories of God at work

August 21st, 2015

I was just over at Our Daily Bread Ministries and I noticed they have a section called “Stories of God at work”. It has testimonies from people who God has been working in their lives.

If you are interested, you can find it here.

Resources for new Christians

August 19th, 2015

I often get emails from people who have become new Christians either via my website or with someone they know. Often they ask for resources to be sent to them to help them grow in their faith.

I always try to forward free resources on to them and give them some links to websites that will help. Here are a few that I pass on.

  1. BibleGateway – a free online Bible with other resources
  2. – a place where you can do free courses on the Bible, ministry and first steps as a Christian
  3. 10 Basic Steps – an online discipleship program by CRU
  4. New Beginnings – our free discipleship booklet. I send a PDF copy.
  5. Our Daily Bread – Daily Bible devotion online

Everyone is different. Some might just want to read the Bible, while others might want to do a structured course. That is why I offer a few resources to help.

What would you offer if someone contacted you via email for help?

Wait patiently

August 15th, 2015

Here is a good thought from Word for Today. Please enjoy…

‘Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous…’ Psalm 27:14 NLT

It’s in looking back that we realise: (1) God had something better in mind for us. (2) We weren’t mature enough at that point to handle what we were asking Him for. We think we’re ready, but God knows when we are. Scripture often commands us to ‘wait on the Lord’. Learning to wait is a test of maturity.

John MacArthur writes: ‘People find it difficult with life if they can’t instantly gratify every desire. They want to eliminate every discomfort, difficulty, injustice or deprivation instantly. Scripture responds with two revolutionary concepts: heavenly mindedness and delayed gratification.’ Waiting forces us to accept that we’re not in control. It humbles us in ways we need to be humbled. Consider the trapeze artist: for a split second, which must feel like an eternity, he or she is suspended in nothingness. They can’t go back, and it’s too soon to feel the grasp of the one who’ll catch them. They must wait in absolute trust. You may be at that same point in your life right now. You’ve let go of what God called you to let go of, but you can’t feel His hand catching you yet. Moses waited 80 years for a ministry that lasted 40 years: two-thirds of his life was spent getting ready! Jesus spent 30 years preparing for a ministry that would last three-and-a-half years.

From God’s perspective, your life isn’t measured by its length, but by its effectiveness and its impact for His Kingdom. So wait, and keep a good attitude while you’re doing it. God won’t disappoint you.
