Tips for new Christians
If you are a new Christian we have provided some
suggestions for you to help you on your new journey with God. On this page you
will find some things you can do which will help you in your first
steps, links to church movements in Australia and some links to websites
that will provide some helpful tips.
1. Read
the Bible daily
The Bible will help us to learn more about God and
gives us practical advice and how we should live. A good place to start is
the Gospel of Luke that is found in the New Testament. This book will give
you information on the life of Jesus Christ and you will be able to read
about His miracles and teachings to His followers.
If you don't have a Bible you can read one online here at
BibleGateway.com. It is a good idea to memorise Scripture to help you in
your daily life. There are some tips at the bottom of this page to help you
get started.
2. Start to pray
Prayer is simply communicating with God. As you
pray tell God your needs and pray that He will bless others too. Before long you will
see the difference prayer makes in your life and in the lives of those
around you. Remember to keep it simple - just like you are talking to a
friend. As you pray remember to be open to God so He can speak to you or
prompt you to do something. Like all good communication, prayer is a two way
thing.
3.
Meet with other Christians
God set up church so we could have be a part of a
caring community, to have a support network and so we can learn more about
Him. You can also learn more about the Bible, prayer, baptism,
serving God and living in community. You
can find a list of church denominations below.
This has links to their websites.
4. Do a Christian
Foundations course
You can visit the Campus Crusade for Christ website

Christian faith. The address is

5. Tell others about your
new faith
Sharing your faith can be fun and rewarding. You might
like to start by telling people close to you that you have accepted Jesus
into your life. Telling others about your faith and decision to follow Jesus
can will allow them to follow Him too. If you need some tips to help you
share your faith you can visit our "evangelism
tips" page.

Internet Resources
Below are some internet resources that we have used to
help us grow in our faith, learn more about God and help others in need.
Memorising Bible Verses
A good tip for memorising Scripture
is to write the name of a verse on one side of a card (ie John 3:16)
and then write the words of the verse on the
other. This will help you to say the name of the
verses and try to quote it from memory. Then you can turn the card over and
see if you got it right.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 - All Scripture is God-breathed and is
useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and
training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be
thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Psalm 199:11 - I have hidden your word in my heart that I
might not sin against you.
Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the LORD with all your heart and
lean not on your own understanding; in all your
ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths
straight.
John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one
and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall
not perish but have eternal life.
1 John 5:13 - I write these things
to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that
you have eternal life.
1 Peter 5:7 - Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares
for you.
Philippians 4:6 - Do not be anxious about anything, but in
everything, by prayer and petition, with
thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
1 Peter 4:10 - Each one should use whatever gift he has
received to serve others, faithfully administering
God's grace in its various forms.
Matthew 28:18-20 - Then Jesus came to them and said, "All
authority in heaven and on earth has been given to
me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything
I have commanded you. And surely I am with you
always, to the very end of the age."
1 John 1:8-10 - If we claim to be without sin, we deceive
ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we
confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and
purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned,
we make him out to be a liar and his word has no
place in our lives.
Hebrews 10:25 - Let us not give up meeting together, as some
are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage
one another—and all the more as you see the Day
approaching.
2 Corinthians 9:7 - Each man should give what he has decided
in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under
compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
John 14:6 - Jesus said to him, "I
am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except
through me"
Ephesians 2:8&9 - "For by grace you have been saved through
faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not the result
of works, so that no one may boast".
