New experiences

I am having a couple new experiences this weekend. The first one is I am preaching and leading services in two churches. At 9.00am I am speaking at our church service in Merredin and once that is done I head 50km down to Bruce Rock to lead the service there.

I have never done this before so it should be fun. Our church in Merredin has about 50 people and the church in Bruce Rock is about 10. As you can imagine they both have a very different feel about them. I have been with my Pastor to do this and have seen how he treats them both. One is more formal and the other is more relaxed and intimate.

The other thing I am doing is speaking from the Lectionary. The Lectionary is set Bible readings for each week that you preach from. While it is not compulsory to do, this it does give you a sense of working your way through the Bible and knowing that most churches in your denomination will be using the same texts. You are all on the same page.

The texts I am using this week come from Malachi 3:1-4, Philippians 1:3-11 and Luke 3:1-6. These texts touch on the one who is coming to announce the Messiah, Paul encouraging the church in Philippi to be pure and blameless when the Lord comes and John crying out in the desert. The working title I have been giving is Repentance and Peace.

So it promises to be an interesting weekend. One with new and stretching experiences, but it is a good type of stretching. I am looking forward to it and see this as heading further down the path God has called me to walk. I am genuinely excited about what lies ahead :-)

God Bless,

Dave

PS. I will put my message on my main website on Monday.
