The hope we have
December 1st, 2009
The Christian faith offers those who believe so many things. It offers salvation, restored relationship with God and forgiveness of sin. But one of the great things it offers is hope.
It doesn’t take much to look at the world today to see there are a lot of people who are sadly lacking hope in their lives. So many people are getting divorced, so many are turning to drugs or alcohol, and so many are choosing suicide as their only option. We as Christians need to share this hope that we have with those around us.
For those of us who daily follow Christ, we know that no matter what happens to us in this life God is on control. When the storms of life come against us and we are like a boat being tossed on the ocean, we can be assured that we are safely in the palm of God’s hands and anchored firmly to Him. Wherever we go or whatever we do, He is right there with us guiding, leading, encouraging and protecting.
The hope we have in Christ is not just contained to the here and now. We also have a future hope. We have a hope of spending eternity in with God. It is always difficult to describe what our eternal home will be like, but the Bible gives us some hints.
Firstly, it will be eternal, forever and ever and ever and then some! It will also a place where there is no sickness or disease, a place where there will no wars or fighting and a place with no natural disasters. It will be a place where everyone feels good about themselves, it will be a place where we will not struggle with sin and best of all, it will be a place where we will see our Lord face to face.
So today as we enter the month of December and the lead up to Christmas, let us not only remember that Jesus was born into this world some 2000 years ago, but let us have hope in the things He is yet to do.
