Vision casting

June 5th, 2007

I’ve always thought that vision casting is about showing people what you believe is God’s picture of the future and sharing the benefits of how good that will be when we all get there. I believe a vision is a picture from God of how things could and should be.

I believe that sharing a vision for the future with your church or ministry is like being at an airport and asking everyone to get on a plane. You have to share what we already have and then you have to paint the benefits of getting on the plane and what the destination will be like. It is really is like being a travel agent and then facilitating the people going on the journey.

Like any journey to a new place, some people get it and go on the first go on the first plane. They are keen and excited and want to sit up the front of the plane. Some take a little more time and maybe need to see the travel brochures a few times before they get on board. They might not get on the first plane available, but might travel a few weeks later. You might even find that some are not even at the airport and might need you to pick them up and give them a lift!

Whatever analogy you use, vision casting about showing people God’s picture of the future, showing them the benefits of it, keeping the vision before them and gently leading them throught the process. You will need to address their fears and doubts along the way, but I think we always need to remember to keep taking them back to the day when it all comes to pass and how great it is going to be.

God Bless,

Dave
