One of the things I have really been encouraged by since returning to the hospital part time is the number of volunteer helpers at the hospital.
Many of these helpers are Christians I know from the local churches. They are at the hospital several times per week spending time with the patients in the nursing home or the hostel.
Some play the piano and sing along with groups of patients, some transport the patients around town to appointments, or even drive patients to medical appointments in Perth. While others play games with the patients and some visit friends to keep them connected to their world.
I have been amazed by commitment and the caring I see in the volunteers as I walk around the hospital doing my job. They are really making a difference and being Jesus to the residents. It is inspiring to see.
As I type I am reminded of the words of Christ, “Well done good and faithful servant”.
